The certification takes a multitude of factors into account: besides energy efficiency, benefits provided by the location and the building are also important, as well as the type of fabrics and materials used and the creation of a sound, wholesome interior.
This resulted in the introduction of water efficient appliances to the recently renewed office, as well as switching to the use of eco-friendly detergents. The lighting of the building is now provided by modern light fixtures and LED lights, while the plastered and glass walls, the doors and carpets contain large amounts of recycled materials.
Many of the used fabrics have been produced in Hungary, which reduces the environmental pressure caused by transport and delivery. Not to mention that it’s also important at an environmentally friendly workplace that the amount of fresh air per person is higher than average.
The choice of location by Colliers has also contributed to successfully acquiring the certification, as MOM Towers have a great infrastructure, the nearby supermarkets also offer a range of services that can simply be accessible by a short walk, while the green roof was also an important factor in the decision.
Colliers’ own Hungarian team has already put an emphasis on green buildings and LEED-certifications, and due to their own office’s recently received LEED Silver certification they have proven that with the appropriate designs and sufficient attention, it requires no additional costs to create a green office.
Mr. Szircsák pointed out that the Hungarian headquarters is the third Colliers office in the world – the very first in Europe – to receive the LEED for Commercial Interiors certification, which was specifically created to classify environmentally friendly office blocks and retail units.
